Kirkcudbright Library
The staff at Kirkcudbright offer you a warm welcome to your local branch library. We are located on the town's historic High Street next to the Sheriff Court and open for 6 days in the week.
Opening hours are:- Monday: 2.00pm to 7.30pm; Tuesday: 10.00am to 7.30pm; Wednesday: 12 noon to 7.30pm; Thursday: 10.00am to 5.00pm; Friday: 10.00am to 7.30pm; Saturday: 10.00am to 5.00pm.
Along with our lending services which includes books, story tapes and CD's we have a selection of music CD's and DVD's for hire. There are also six computers for FREE public use.
Lending: There is a good selection of of both adult and children's fiction which is changed regularly. The reference library includes a strong local collection as well as an Art section to complement the Town's branding as the Artists' Town. The local collection also proves popular for people wishing to research their family background or do a little historical research. Books are borrowed, normally for a period of 3 weeks but this can be extended when they are issued or we allow up to 2 renewals over the phone. The library catalogue can be accessed on-line and requests can be made on-line or in person. It is recognised that in a rural community people travel for reasons of work etc. and any book or items borrowed in one branch may be returned at another branch within the region.
ICT: The computers are upgraded regularly and offer you free internet access. Training is available, some of which is free. Please enquire about our Training Courses.
DVD's and Music CD's: Our DVD lending service is for a period of 2 days but items borrowed on a Friday may be returned on the Monday as, as yet, we have no Sunday opening. CD loan period is 1 week.
Books on Wheels: This is a service run by Kirkcudbright Library with the assistance of volunteers "Friends of the Library" to the people of the town.
At Kirkcudbright library, with the help of volunteers we offer a free service, to those people who are unable to get to the library for reasons of age or infirmity, of a selection of books brought to your door for you to choose from. This service is available fortnightly on Thursday afternoons. The volunteers will be happy to come and see you and find out what your reading preferences are, so why not give us a call and you too can enjoy the experience of reading again.
